The Misuse of The Stand Your Ground Law Will Cause Tragedy on Multiple Levels

I am seeing too many honest men sent to prison for murder or aggravated battery when they thought the “Stand Your Ground" law protected them.

Here are some examples. In a rental dispute, the tenant fled the area and tried to run over the landlord with his truck. The landlord tried to jump out of the way but was hit by the rear view mirror. But here is where the landlord did wrong- He got up, pulled his gun and shot at a fleeing vehicle. Despite heroic efforts, this client was convicted of aggravated assault with a firearm. Minimum 10 years in Florida. Here is another case: In an argument over a parking space, a biker dude pushed an old man to the ground and threatened to kick him. When the old man pulled a gun, the biker dude backed away holding his hands in the air saying "Don't shoot". But the old man shot anyway and was convicted of aggravated battery with a firearm- mandatory life in Florida.

If you are a gun owner with a concealed carry license, you had better have a cool head or even pay the money to receive training in simulated threat situations. Otherwise you may wind up shooting your gun and spending the rest of your life in prison.
